Pingtree Loans – What is a Pingtree for Loans?

Guide explaining how a loan pingtree works

What Is a Loan Pingtree?

A loan pingtree is a piece of matching technology used by some credit brokers and lead distributors. It compares the information in an application with the criteria supplied by participating lenders and other finance providers.

The aim is to identify which participating firm may be willing to consider the application. It does not mean that every lender sees the application, and it does not guarantee that any lender will make an offer.

How Does a Pingtree Work?

When you submit an application to a credit broker, the information is checked against the rules used by the broker’s matching system. These rules may include:

  • the amount requested;
  • age and UK residency;
  • income and employment details;
  • regular outgoings and existing commitments;
  • credit-history information;
  • bank-account and contact details;
  • the lender’s current appetite and eligibility criteria.

If the application appears to fit a participating lender’s criteria, the system may pass the application to that lender for further consideration. If it does not fit, the system may try another participating firm or return no match.

Does a Pingtree Decide Whether You Get a Loan?

No. The pingtree only helps with matching. The lender makes the lending decision.

A lender may carry out identity, fraud, creditworthiness and affordability checks. It may also request more information, use Open Banking or ask for supporting documents before deciding whether to offer a loan.

Our What Credit Score Do You Need for a Loan? guide explains why a credit score is only one part of the decision.

Will Every Lender See Your Application?

Not necessarily. A matching system may stop once it finds a suitable route, and some lenders may only receive an application when the information appears to fit their criteria.

This is one reason why a broker can be more convenient than applying separately to many lenders. However, one application does not mean every lender in the UK has considered you.

Does Using a Pingtree Affect Your Credit File?

The answer depends on the checks carried out during the process. A broker or lender may use a soft search for eligibility or identity purposes, while a lender may carry out a hard credit search before making a final lending decision.

You should read the application wording and privacy information carefully. Do not assume that every stage is invisible to other lenders.

How Quickly Can a Pingtree Find a Match?

Matching can happen quickly, but a quick match is not the same as a final approval or payment. The lender may still need to complete checks, request documents or confirm bank details.

Read our How Quickly Can I Get a Loan? guide for a clearer explanation of the stages between application and payment.

How Does Badger Loans Use Matching Technology?

Badger Loans is a credit broker, not a lender. We use the information in your application to try to match you with participating UK lenders and finance providers.

We do not make the lending decision, set the interest rate or guarantee approval. The lender decides whether to offer credit and on what terms.

Our How Badger Loans Works page explains the application journey, including why some applicants receive several emails and why many applications do not result in a loan.

What Should You Check Before Accepting an Offer?

If a lender makes an offer, compare the APR, repayment amount, repayment dates, term and total amount repayable. Make sure the payment fits your budget after essential bills and existing debts.

Use our Budget Calculator before proceeding. If the loan is expensive or the repayments look difficult, consider the Alternatives to Bad Credit Loans before taking on more borrowing.

Badger Loans does not charge customers to submit an application. Any offer is subject to the lender’s own checks, terms and approval.
